Advice and Support

Being prepared can help mitigate the risks of extreme weather to keep you, your people and business safe

Preparation is the key to dealing with extreme weather conditions. Consider each of the recommendations below and adapt them so that they are relevant to your business. With these plans in place, you will be able to work quickly and effectively during periods of extreme weather to help reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.

Business Continuity Plan

We recommend that you create a Business Continuity Plan to minimise the impact of extreme weather, such as snow and ice, upon your business. Think about what you need to include in your plan. You will almost certainly need to de-ice or clear snow from footpaths and car parks and keep the surrounding areas clear and safe.

Begin to make preparations well in advance so that you’re prepared to take action as soon as you need to, rather than waiting for the situation to become urgent. Stock up on essential workplace safety items and the necessary kit for your employees and make sure that all equipment is well-maintained and in good working order.

Effective Salting

If you're looking for a cost-effective solution to slippery winter conditions, salt is the best de-icer available. This adds extra grip to roads, pavements, and walkways, making them less slippery and so reducing the risk of an accident or injury.

Consult our expert guide on de-icing salt, including the type of salt to use, how it works and when it is most effective to spread.

Weather Alerts

During extreme weather spells, it is a good idea to monitor the changing weather conditions in your region. This will enable you to put extreme weather plans into action in good time.
