Climate change is happening. It presents a risk to us all, right here and right now.
That's why we're looking at every aspect of our business in order to play our part - by reducing greenhouse gases in line with our validated science-based target and, moving away from landfill and incineration.
Reducing our impact
Our key focus areas include:
Carbon reduction: We are taking action to reduce emissions from our direct operations (Scope one and two emissions).
Net zero by 2045: We are committed to tackling emissions throughout our value chain from manufacture to use of products. (Scope three emissions)
Minimal operational waste: We are reducing packaging and waste in our own operations and throughout our supply chain and eliminating waste going to UK landfill.
In our move to lower carbon operations, we are taking action to reduce emissions from our direct operations (Scope one and two emissions). We are on track to reduce Scope one and two emissions by 50% by 2030 from our 2018-2019 baseline.
We have been monitoring and reporting our energy and fuel use since 2005. Taking action to improve energy efficiency every year across the estate and operations, as part of our drive to reduce carbon.
Using the Scope 1 and 2 direct emissions data, Arco has implemented an offset program meaning we are now carbon neutral for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions from UK operations.
We are constantly improving the energy and carbon efficiency of our operations with renewable energy tariffs, LED lighting, fleet changes and more. We have also scoped options to generate our own energy through renewable installations at our premises.
We are committed to tackling emissions throughout our value chain from manufacture to use of products (Scope three emissions). Projects will enable us to play our part to meet the UN’s global target to reach net–zero by 2050.
Tackling Scope 3 Emissions
Scope 3 emissions have been assessed in 2020/21 and our higher emission areas in our value chain that we can influence, have been prioritised. We are now engaging with the supply chain partners where the greatest gains can be made. We are also reviewing science-based carbon reduction targets relevant to our business.
